Installing the Converged Network Adapter
The Emulex
LP21000 and LP21002 converged network adapters (CNAs) use removable optical
transceivers. If you need to change the bracket for CNA installation, you must first
remove the
transceivers from the housing (cage). This document explains how to install the CNA and, if necessary,
how to remove the transceivers and bracket safely.
To install a CNA:
1. Each CNA is shipped with a unique 64-bit identifier called the IEEE address. The Fibre Channel
industry uses a World Wide Name (WWN) derived from the IEEE address, and this number is
needed for Fibre Channel connectivity. A CNA can have one or two 10 Gigabit physical ports.
IEEE addresses are assigned for each port, and are used when configuring your system. The
serial number is used when communicating with Emulex. All numbers are clearly marked on the
board. We recommend that you record these numbers before installation.
2. Turn off and unplug the computer.
3. Remove the computer case.
4. Remove the blank pane from an empty PCIe bus slot bus slot. Follow steps 5-8 to change the
brackets if they are different sizes. Otherwise, skip to step 9.
5. Remove the mounting bracket screws from the top of the CNA.
6. Remove the bracket and store it for future use.
7. Align the new mounting bracket tabs with the appropriate holes in the CNA.
8. Replace the screws that attach the CNA to the bracket.
9. Insert the CNA into the empty x8 PCIe bus slot. Press firmly until the adapter is seated.
10. Secure the CNA's mounting bracket to the case with panel screw or clip.
11. Replace the computer case and tighten case screws.
The CNA is now installed in the server and is ready for media attachment.
Note:
Place the CNA into an empty PCIe x8 slot. Make sure that the adapter is in an
appropriate PCIe slot that does not interfere with other components or case to
prevent damaged to the CNA.
Note:
Be careful not to push the bracket past the transceiver housing's grounding tabs.
Make sure the light emitting diodes (LEDs) are properly aligned with the holes in the
bracket.
