Stealth PA-1
Connections
WARNING:
THE AMPLIFIER CIRCUITRY USED IN THE STEALTH PA-1 UTILIZES A FULLY
BALANCED BRIDGE TOPOLOGY. BOTH OF THE SPEAKER OUTPUTS ON THE PA-1 CARRY AN
ACTIVE SIGNAL AND A SMALL COMMON DC OFFSET.
Both speaker output terminals on the PA-1 rest at a DC potential of approxi27 VDC.
This DC potential is carefully controlled and balanced by the servo-control circuitry in the PA-1,
and is NOT applied across your loudspeakers.
- Always make speaker and input connections to the Stealth PA-1 with the amplifier turned Off.
- ONLY connect the speaker outputs on the PA-1 to the teminals on a PASSIVE loudspeaker.
- DO NOT connect the outputs of the PA-1 to any device with a common ground.
- DO NOT connect either output terminal on the PA-1 to another amplifier.
- DO NOT connect the black (-) OUTPUT terminal on the PA-1 to ground.
- DO NOT connect the minus (-) terminal on your loudspeaker to ground.
Failure to heed these warnings will result in improper operation of your Stealth PA-1 and may
damage the PA-1 or your other equipment.
Connecting speakers to your Stealth PA-1
The Stealth PA-1 provides audiophile grade five-way binding posts for connecting your
loudspeakers. Because the PA-1 utilizes a fully balanced bridge topology, there are a few extra
things to consider when connecting the PA-1 to a loudspeaker.
•
Always
turn off the amplifier before connecting or disconnecting speaker cables.
•
Always
verify that your speaker cables are firmly attached, and not shorted to each other or
to any other cables, before powering up your PA-1.
•
DO NOT
connect either of the speaker outputs on the PA-1 to any device, including speaker
switches or powered loudspeakers, that utilizes a common ground.
•
DO NOT
allow either terminal on your speaker cable to come into contact with ground while
the speaker is connected to the PA-1.
•
Always use high-quality speaker wire; 16-gauge or heavier.
•
Be careful to wire all speakers “in phase”
(the plus/red terminal on each speaker to the plus/red terminal on your amp).
•
Try to use wires of equal length and gauge for both speakers in each pair (use the same gauge
and length for both fronts, or for both surrounds; don’t use a long 16-gauge wire for one
speaker and a short 10-gauge wire for the other).
•
If you use stranded cables, use care to avoid short circuits (from stray strands touching).
•
If you are planning to bi-amp your speakers, make sure to remove the bi-amp jumpers on the
input panel of each speaker. Failure to remove the jumpers will damage your amplifier.
