Example: 10Mbit / 1Mbit connection.
Problem:
When PC1 starts to download, the internet connection gets
slow or sluggish.
Suggestion:
Set PC1 to ‘Max Limit’ and set a maximum of 5000 Kbit download
and 512 Kbit upload.
Problem:
During online play with PC, Playstation or Xbox the screen freezes
or
strange artifacts appear on screen. This is so called ‘lag’, caused
by others computers which are using the internet connection
intensively.
Suggestion:
Set PC, Playstation or Xbox with ‘Min.Guarantee’. Use the values
3000 Kbit download and 640Kbit upload.
Hint: The QoS rules are handled by the router from the top of the list to the bottom of
the list.
9.0 VPN – Virtual Private Networking
The Router has a built-in VPN server. With this you can make a connection with your
home network from another location or let a friend participate in your network.
In the following situation we presume that you have a router at home and you want to
connect to another location. This can be done in combination with Windows without
the use of extra VPN software.
Setup the router:
1. Log on to the webpage of the router through http://192.168.8.1 with “Username”
and “Password”: admin
2. Click “Setup Tool”.
3. Click “Advanced Setup” in the left menu.
4. Click “Utility”.
5. Click “VPN Setup”.
6. On the right side of the screen you will see the VPN setup page.
7. Select Start.
8. Select MPPE Encryption.
9. Click on Apply
The VPN server has started now but does not have any accounts, this can be done as
follows:
1. Fill out a log-in name in the field VPN account for those who want to connect to
your network.
2. Fill out a password in the field VPN password for those who want to connect to
your network.
3. Fill out an IP-address in the field “Assigned IP” to give an IP-address to the user.
Keep in mind that this has to be an available IP-address.
