VIII. Addition to the operating instructions
ELLER Hand Hoist PH3; capacity: 0,25t – 20t
ELLER ELPH3 series chain hoist in the capacity ranges of 0,25t-30t have been successfully tested
and therefore approved for cross hauling up to an angle of 30
° .
Precondition in such an angled rigging job is, that between the hoist hanging and the load attachment
point exist a straight line. The hoist top hook must be free to move at angle in direction to the load. As
soon as the top hook has lack of space to move and is interfering with other parts, bending forces
occur which normal chain hoist are not made for and which will destroy them. As well as the hoist
body itself has to hang free in the line of force and has no interfering with parts around it and it is not
rigged around corners.
Important notes for fleeting/cross-hauling.
•
Fleeting/cross hauling must be specifically addressed in an appropriate lifting plan.
•
There must be a full assessment of the risks involving fleeting/cross hauling.
•
The lifting point used for attachment of the hoist for fleeting/cross hauling must be suited for
the application.
•
The user must take into account the reduction in the work load limit.
•
When cross hauling with a single hoist the user must consider the pendulum effect.
•
To reduce the risk of the pendulum effect the user should work with two hoists so when one
hoist lifts the other will slack/loosen. Be aware that each hoist itself should have a SWL equal
or higher that the load. So when lifting 10 ton with 2 hoists; each hoist must have a SWL of
min 10 tons.
•
The user must ensure a correct position in line with the hoists to keep the hand chain operate
smoothly.
•
The user must take precautions to ensure that the unloaded side chain will not jam in the main
unit.
•
The user must ensure a correct positioning of the hoist in a way that the load is correctly
applied to the top hook.
•
With multi falls chain hoists the user must ensure a right positioning to prevent loadchain
jamming in the block and/or in the bottom hook.
