INTRODUCTION
Venous disease can be defined as a disease that affects the evolving venous system and is very prone to
chronicity. The embrittlement and damage of vein walls as well as the disability of vein valves results in a
backward blood flow known as venous disease, that consists in varicose veins, deep venous thrombosis and
chronic venous insufficiency.
Varicose veins are thus an epiphenomenon of the venous disease, known as vein dilation, elongation and
twisting accompanied by valve insufficiency, becoming the most common peripheral vascular disease, with
an incidence ranging from 15 to 30% of the population, depending on the region.
At the beginning, dilated thin-walled blood vessels are the so-called varicose veins, telangiectasias or spider
veins. They can be regarded as the minimum indication of the venous disease, having only an aesthetic
impact but not compromising human health. They are most commonly found on the outer thighs, behind
the knees, on the ankles and on the face.
Spider veins can develop in isolation, in clusters, linearly, spider-like or as large “maps”. Their diameters
range from 0.1 to 1 mm, and they are located on the sub papillary plexus, at a depth ranging from 0.08
mm to 0.2 mm (80 to 200 microns). Consequently, they could be classified as having a capillary, arteriolar
and vein origin. They have different diameters, some are rather bright red and others rather bluish.
Treating telangiectasias and varicose vein poses mostly a cosmetic problem and occupies and outstanding
place in phlebology and in modern aesthetic medicine. The principle used for treating telangiectasias is
thermo coagulation, also used in the treatment of rosacea, cuperosis and ruby points.
SPIDER vascular thermo-coagulator is based on the generation of a radiofrequency pulse that produces the
thermal coagulation of veins resulting in their immediate removal, with no side effects or formation of scar
tissue on the epidermis. Using very tiny and disposable needles coated with an insulating material, which in
no case will affect the surrounding tissues, the thermo-coagulator provides an accurate scope of operation,
but no side effects. It consists in a main radiofrequency unit that generates the pulses, a needle holder
(pencil), and extremely thin and accurate insulated, disposable needles.
The thermo-generator creates a high frequency pulse (radiofrequency), as the needle drives it to the
desired location with absolute accuracy. This enables a precise amount of energy to be delivered at the
exact location, producing a thermal injury that translates into an effective thermo coagulation. The
temperature in the small vessel reaches approximately 70 ºC, which will enable the coagulation of the
plasma proteins and the destruction of the parietal structure.
The pulses generated with SPIDER are stable both in terms of intensity and time, providing a very high
accuracy in coagulation and avoiding tissue charring, which makes the procedure very efficient and, at the
same time, completely avoids the risk of causing skin lesions.
The pulse may be adjusted in terms of duration and power, according to the condition being treated. Just
combining these two values the exact power can be obtained to remove the lesion, providing long-lasting,
immediate results in rapid sessions that require no preliminary preparation.
SPIDER may be used for the whole body, even on most sensitive areas such as the ankles, the knees, and
the face; it can be applied on all types of skins; no bandages are required, no subsequent rest or recovery
period, and no side effects arise after its application. The treatment is highly tolerable, with a mild
discomfort and no risk of hyper or hypo pigmentation, no scars, no hematomas, no swelling, burns or
necrosis.
The following pages will provide you with useful information on how to use the device appropriately. We
