11. TIRE INFLATION
WARNING:
Tires must be properly inflated before
riding. Never exceed the maximum pressure (PSI) that is listed
on the side of the tire.
WARNING:
Be sure to check the edge (bead) of
both tires are evenly seated the entire way around on both sides
of the tire. Failure to do so may result in the tire coming off of
the rim, the tube popping (see Figure 12), and a loss of control
of the bicycle, causing injury or even death.
WARNING:
Using a service station air hose without
a pressure gauge may result in over-inflating of the tire and
popping of the tube. This could also cause irreparable damage
to the tube and tire.
Use a hand pump, foot pump, or floor pump to properly
inflate the tires. (See Figure 3.) The maximum inflation
(PSI) is shown on each tire sidewall. (See Figure 1.) If your
pump does not have a built in gauge, use a separate
pressure gauge to ensure the tires are inflated to the
correct pressure. (See Figure 4.)
