Troubleshooting
Problem Cause Solution
Generator will not start Fuel tank is empty Refill gasoline to proper level
Defective or dirty spark plug Replace spark plug
An electrical device is plugged
into the generator Unplug device and restart generator
Generator will not start or it
starts but runs roughly Oil level is too low Refill oil to the proper level
Place generator on a flat, level surface
Choke isn’t in proper position Adjust choke
Spark plug has loose wire Tighten wire connecting spark plug
Generator starts but then
immediately shuts off Fuel tank is too low or empty Refill gasoline to proper level
Oil level is too low Refill oil to the proper level
Place generator on a flat, level surface
Generator isn’t supplying
enough power or the
generator is overheating Generator is overloaded Confirm electrical device plugged into
your generator is single-phase 60 Hz.
Confirm total requirements of all devices
plugged into your generator do not
exceed the power limit of your generator.
Refer to “Stay within your generator’s
power limit” section of manual (page 23).
Cooling holes are blocked Check the cooling holes on the side
panel and bottom of the generator. Clear
away any mud, water, paper or other
debris.
