Chapter 4/ Operational Description
Data Collection
Real-time
monitoring
61000 allows you to view power quality phenomena as it happens, when it happens.
The instrument is able to capture and process data in real time, and allows users to view
it in Scope mode and Meter mode.
Event
monitoring
The data collection function of the 61000 controls how timed and disturbance events
are recorded and saved to memory during monitoring of an electrical system. This
function consists of the settings for the interval for timed readings, parameter
thresholds, and waveform capture.
When to
monitor events
61000 can monitor an electrical system in situations where scope or meter
measurements in real time do not give the data that you need to diagnose a problem.
The length of time you monitor a circuit can vary from a few minutes to a few weeks or
more depending on your application.
Parameter
threshold
Threshold is a user entered value (or limit) that the 61000 compares to a measurement
to decide if an event occurs. For example, on a circuit with a nominal voltage of 120V
rms, the high and low limits could be set to 132V and 108V, respectively. If the input
voltage exceeds 132V rms, or falls below 108V rms, the limit is exceeded and an event
is produced. The 61000 saves this limit crossing to memory as an event. The return to
normal would also be saved as an event.
Setup
Setup is a list of parameter thresholds and waveform capture settings for each channel
that controls the way the 61000 records event data. In essence, a setup is a list of the
criteria that the 61000 uses to determine what constitutes an event and what waveform
data is saved when an event occurs.
Event
Event is any data that the 61000 saves to memory, usually based on exceeding a
programmed measurement threshold but also including the measurement return to
normal.
Waveform
Capture
A function that saves the actual voltage and/or current waveforms that occurred at the
time of an event.
NOTE: Waveform capture consumes much more memory than just textual capture.
Careful planning for which parameters you want to capture waveforms, will help you
increase the number of events that can be saved in memory.
