How jaw anomalies develop
Persistent sucking habits ­ of whatever kind ­ cause
the tongue to be displaced backwards and down­
wards. It no longer rests against the teeth, thus caus­
ing an imbalance between the tongue and cheek
muscles.
The upper jaw is constricted. There is a lack of space,
which results in crooked incisors.
Even with an open mouth posture , the tongue only
lies in the lower jaw and as such, it also causes the up­
per jaw to be too narrow.
