SPeed FlASh Mode (FP)
It can be difficult to get sharp images of fast movements e.g. of snow boarders or downhill bikers. The regular flashing time of the
flash unit will be too long and will create in-motion unsharpness with a wiping effect. The DMF-480 studio flash offers five settings
for reduced flashing times in order to master such kind of objects. Independent of the aperture time set, fast movements can be
“frozen” so will result in sharp images. See the available setting from the following chart:
Press the MENU button until FP mode shows up on the display. Use the UP and DOWN keys to select the desired FP setting. Try
out by yourself, which FP setting is best for your object and situation.

Important: the shorter the flashing time, the lower the flash power.
The FP speed flash mode allows fast image sequences. Set your camera to conti-
nuous shooting mode. The flash will be able to release for up to 25 images/s.
1. Frequency of Flashes: Press the MENU button repeatedly until the LCD shows
2 figures and Hz. This is the number of flashes fired during a picture (small figures
on left-hand side) and the frequency - time between the flashes (figures on right
hand side). Use the UP and DOWN keys to select a flash frequency between 1
and 10. 1 corresponds to approx. 1 flash/s, 2 approx. 2 flashes/s ……… 10 equals
approx. 10 flashes/s.
2. Number of Flashes: Press the MENU button repeatedly until the LCD shows MULTI
below the number of images. Use the UP and DOWN keys to select between 5, 10,
15, 20 or 25 flashes.
Example: You wish to flash 15x during 1 exposure. Set the number of 15 flashes. In
order to achieve a short exposure time, set the shortest possible flash frequency
of 10 flashes per second.
Now the required exposure time can be calculated: 15 flashes at 10 flashes/s
results in 1,5s exposure time. Adjust the aperture and ISO number accordingly.
Hint: The use of a neutral density filter may become necessary. A variable ND filter
allows adjusting exposure variably.
Note: The shorter the flashing time, the lower the flash power. Please consider the
reduced flash power when you make your camera settings.

Depending on the object, it can be attractive to flash repeatedly while taking a picture in bulb mode. Example: Movements of a
tennis player can be shown as a course of motions. The following two parameters can be set at the DMF-480 flash:
