Use Cases
The PXH812 card may be used in the following use cases. The use cases are summarized in Table 3: Adapter Use Cases on
page 12.
Use Case A: Transparent IO
The Dolphin PXH812 connects to any standardized PCI Express x8 target device. No special device driver is required for the
PXH812 card. Any device in the PCI Express IO system will operate using its standard device driver. The PXH812 is
configured in Target Host transparent mode.
Use Case B
–
Transparent Downstream Target
The PXH812 adapter can be used as a downstream target adapter. The PXH812 in the expansion chassis operates in
Transparent Target mode. The PXH812 in the computer operates in Transparent Host mode (Use Case A). The PXH812
card is compliant to the PCIe Target card specification and has been tested with several expansion boxes from Magma Inc.
