Installation Overview

Step 2

Install the other 34-pin header connector(s) into the disk
drive(s) with the colored edge of the daisy chained
ribbon cable aligned to pin 1 of the drive edge
connector(s). The end-most connector should be at-
tached to the drive you want to be Drive A.

IDE Hard Disk Interface

The G586VPM system board is equipped with two PCI
IDE connectors that will interface four IDE (Integrated
Drive Electronics) hard disk drives. An IDE drive is a
hard drive with the controller electronics built into the
disk assembly. The integration of the controller and the
drive as a single unit increases reliability and perfor-
mance by eliminating redundant circuitry.

Note:

Only IDE drives can be connected to the IDE interface.
