G586VPM

Serial Ports

The built-in serial ports are RS-232C asynchronous
communication ports with NS16C550-compatible
UARTs that can be used with modems, serial printers,
remote display terminals, and other serial devices. The
G586VPM system board supports IRQ4 for the primary
serial port and IRQ3 for the secondary serial port. These
serial ports use the following system I/O addresses:

Connecting the Serial Ports

Two DB-9P serial port cables are provided with the
system board. They are mounted on a card-edge bracket
along with the PS/2 mouse cable. The upper serial port
cable should be used for the COM-A primary serial
port; connect it to Connector CN8 on the system board.
The lower serial port cable should be used for the
COM-B secondary serial port; connect it to Connector
CN7 on the system board. Make sure the colored stripes
on the ribbon cables align with pin 1 of Connectors
CN7 and CN8. Mount the card-edge bracket to the
system chassis.
