2. The top of each spindle pulley is marked with an arrow. See Figure 13. The arrows
should be perpendicular (at a 90˚ angle) to each other.

3. If the arrows on the surface of each spindle pulley are not perpendicular (at a 90˚
angle) to each other, see an authorized service dealer to have the deck’s blade timing
belt reset.
WARNING: Do not operate the machine without the deck’s blade timing belt
properly set. Failure to follow this instruction could result in personal injury or
property damage.
WARNING: Shut the engine OFF and remove the ignition key (if equipped)
before making adjustments.
Handle Height
The upper handle is secured to two support bars that can be adjusted to raise or lower the
handle height. Adjust if necessary as follows:
1. Remove the upper star knob (a) and carriage screw (b) on the right side of the handle
and the left side of the handle.
See Figure 14.

2. Pivot the handle forward or rearward to align one of the three holes on each support
bar with the holes on the handle.
3. Reinstall the upper star knob (a) and carriage screw (b)` on the right side of the handle
and the left side of the handle when a comfortable height is achieved.
SERVICE
Cutting Deck Removal
WARNING: Before performing any maintenance or repairs, disengage blades,
stop engine and remove key (if equipped) to prevent unintended starting.
To remove the cutting deck, proceed as follows:
1. Remove the belt cover by removing the three screws (a) and washers (b) (if equipped)
which secure it to the frame. See Figure 15 for hardware location according to belt
cover shape.

WARNING: Do not operate mower without the belt cover installed. Failure to
follow this instruction could result in personal injury or property damage.
2. Place the deck height lever in its highest position.
3. Position wood blocks at various places under the deck’s edge. These will temporarily
support the deck as it is removed.
4. Use the deck height lever to lower the deck, so that it rests on the wood blocks.
5. Remove the screw (a) and flange nut (b) which secures the belt keeper rod to the left
side of the mower’s frame.

6. Remove the belt keeper rod and remove the deck belt from around the mower’s
engine pulley.
