DIN EN 14404:2004 + A1: 2010 DEFINES 4 TYPES AND
3 PERFORMANCE LEVELS OF KNEE PROTECTORS
Types
Type 1: Kneepad independent of other clothing which is
fastened to the knee.
Type 2: Kneepad which is e.g. attached in pockets in the
trouser leg.
Type 3: Equipment which is not attached to the body.
Type 4: Kneepad which is part of equipment with additional
functions such as a frame as support when standing
up.
Performance levels
There are 3 different performance levels:
Stage 0 is knee protection suitable for flat surfaces and does not
offer any protection against puncturing.
Stage 1 is knee protection suitable for either flat or uneven
surfaces. This offers protection against puncturing to a power of
(100±5) N.
Stage 2 is knee protection suitable for either flat or uneven sur-
faces in difficult conditions, offering protection against puncturing
up to a power of (250±10) N.
