Installing line cards
WARNING:
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage can occur when components are mishandled. Always
wear an ESD-preventive wrist or foot-heel ground strap when handling line cards. Place line cards on an
antistatic surface when they are not installed.
Removing line cards
WARNING:
Do not remove a panel blank unless you are ready to install a line card into that slot. After
removing a line card, immediately place a panel blank in the empty slot. Blanks are required to control airflow
and electromagnetic interference.
Step
Task
4
Verify that the chassis is running the minimum FTOS version for the line card that you are installing.
5
Completely extend the ejector lever (rotate away from the chassis).
6
Align the card with the card slot guides, and slide it into the slot until the connectors engage with the chassis
backplane. Avoid touching the printed circuit board or connector pins.
7
Rotate the ejector lever towards the chassis to seat the card into place. The card should be flush with the chassis.
8
Secure the card in place by tightening the top and bottom captive screws.
Step
Task
1
Unplug the network interface cables connected to the line card.
2
Unscrew the captive screws and rotate the ejector lever away from the chassis to disengage the backplane
connections.
3
Use the ejector lever and the card handle to pull the card out of the slot. Avoid touching the printed circuit board
and connector pins.
4
Insert a blank panel into all empty slots. Blanks do not have board components or connector pins. Align the blank
with the slot guides and push it until it is flush with the chassis. Tighten the captive screws to secure the panel in
place.
