Using the oven 
Baking 

x

This product is supplied with one chromed 
oven shelf and a roast pan. If required, 
additional shelves, roast pans and a broiler 
may be purchased from any Defy Service 
Centre. 

x

Set the selector knob to the desired baking mode. 
See descriptions on page 5. Top and Bottom 
elements or Bottom element only or Top element 
only.

x

Set the oven thermostat to the required 
temperature. 

x

The thermostat indicator light will glow and remain 
on until the oven has reached the   selected 
temperature. The light will then switch off. 

x

Thereafter place the food in the oven. 

x

During the baking cycle, the indicator light will 
switch on and off as the thermostat maintains the 
selected temperature. 

x

After baking is completed, the thermostat and 
the selector knob must be turned to the 
"0"position in an anti clockwise direction. 

x

Note: The oven thermostat is marked down to 
70°C.  When set to this position, the oven may 
be used as a warmer.

Where possible, bake on the middle shelf position 
of the oven. 

x

Place the food halfway between the back of the 
oven and the door. 

x

Do not open the oven door until at least two thirds 
of the baking time has lapsed. 

x

The roast pan is ideal for roasting but should 
not be used for baking. During baking, the 
roast pan should be removed.  

x

For best baking results use an aluminium bake 
tray (380mm x 260mm x 30mm). These are 
available from all Defy Parts Centres. Part 
number 067610. 

x

Teflon coated baking trays are not 
recommended. 

4. How to use the oven 

General information on baking, roasting and 
grilling

DANGER: 

Be careful when opening the oven door 
as steam may escape. Exiting steam can 
scald your hands, face and/or eyes  

Warning: 

Do not put metal items such 

as forks, knives or saucepan covers into 
your oven since they can get very hot. 

 

Foods  that  are  not  suitable  for  grilling 
create a fire risk. Only grill food which is 
suitable for intensive grilling heat. 
Do not place the food too far in towards 
the  back  of  the  grill.  This  is  the  hottest 
area and fatty food may catch fire.

The oven door must remain partially open  
(approx. 80 mm) during grilling.

Both the wire shelf and roast pan/shelf may be 
used for grilling.

The roast pan  may also be used as a drip tray 
under the wire shelf.

Position the shelf in the desired position below the 
grill element.

Set the

Pre-heat the grill element for about 5 minutes.

Partially withdraw the shelf and place the food in 
the centre of the shelf.

Slide the shelf back into position and partially 
close the door.

Monitor the grilling to avoid burning the food.

After grilling is completed, the 

oven thermostat 

and

the

selector switch 

must be returned to the 

"0"

position in an anti-clockwise direction. 

Accessible parts may become hot when grilling. 
Always use oven gloves when handling food in 
the oven and keep children well away from the 
stove when it is in use.
