Preeautions i,i frosty weather
It is essential to keep the engine as warm as possible. Aids in this
connection are:-
A d

garage free from draughts.
To cover the entire bonnet and radiator with a blanket at night
or when standing during the day.
The use of a heating lamp of. the type suitable for placing under the
bonnet.
Draining the cooling system.
Always maintain the battery in a fully charged condition.
Anti-freeze Solutions
The use of anti-freeze solutions will obviate the necessity for draining,
but it is most important to use a thoroughly reliable brand and to follow the
makers' instructions with the greatest care. The use of an unsatisfactory
solution, or failure to use a good solution carefully, can easily result in
a choked radiator block for which there may be no cure except a new
block. When using anti-freeze, affix a label to the radiator cap to guard
against draining and loss of anti-freeze solution.
OA.lJTIONS
Repeated here are the things which it is important to avoid :-
D.on't attempt to start a cold engine with any vaporizing oil
in the pipes or carburettor.
Don't leave the engine running with the choke out for one second
longer than is necessary.
Never press the starting handle downward when starting the
engine.
Avoid gripping the starting handle with your thumb over the grip._
Don't use any oils other than those recommended. Unsuitable
lubricants may cause rapid wear, impair performance and
make starting difficult.
Always ensure that the sliding bolts are disengaged before opera­
ting the power lift.
Don't run the tractor for long periods with the Power Lift lever
in the raised position.
Never use the steering brakes for the purpose of stopping the tractor.
When replacements are required use only genuine David Brown
spares.
