5. PREPARING AUDIO FILES IN ITUNES
GloBal commandS
These are embedded in the welcome file and affect all subsequent files. In theory, they
could be included in other files, although their primary task is to provide a one-off command
to adapt the PICKUP to the current exhibition environment.
General commands are listed below. PICKUP only reads the bold characters – the rest is
optional. The initial letters are combined with a value or specific characters. These values in
PICKUP remain at the factory settings until you deliberately change a value in the Comments
field. In other words, you only enter commands when you want to alter them.

Values: [X-Y]. This limits the volume setting to minimum X% and maximum Y% of the volume
range.
Default setting: 0–100
Example >
EV 20-80
limits the volume to 20-80% of the maximum volume range.
This command is an excellent way to ensure that volume is never too high for certain kinds
of earphones or in quiet environments. Limiting the lower end of the volume scale is also a
good idea. This prevents visitors inadvertently turning the volume down to zero, and then
not knowing how to turn it up again.

Values: [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. Use this command to preset the equalizer profile. This helps compen-
sate for certain kinds of earphones or audio material.
Default setting: 1
Example >
EE 2
selects the second equalizer setting featuring enhanced bass.

Values: [X–Y]. This is similar to EV above, but limits the volume setting for the loudspeaker
instead.
Default setting: 0–100
