The IR lens hood helps to prevent unwanted infrared (IR) light from
reflecting back onto the camera during activation of the built-in
IR-LEDs and, thus, to eliminate the so-called halo effect and other
undesirable effects that may lead to blurry/foggy images.
Note that otherwise (i.e. without the use of the IR lens hood) some IR
light will be reflected back from the inside finish of the sunshield dur -
ing activation of the built-in IR-LEDs which will considerably reduce
the overall image quality in night mode.
