Cyrus CDi-XR
User Instructions

Connecting to the System Amplifier
• Connect a suitable stereo RCA phono interconnect
between the OUT1 or OUT2 sockets and the
corresponding input of the amplifier or receiver.
Amplifier inputs suitable for this purpose are line inputs.
Dual outputs are provided for convenient connection
to multiroom units or for direct connection to tape/disc
recorders etc.
DO NOT connect the CDi-XR to the PHONO input of the
amplifier, as this could damage your amplifier or speakers.
Connecting a Digital amplifier or D/A converter
The CDi-XR provides two digital outputs to connect to a
digital amplifier or D/A converter.
Connecting with a cable
• Connect a single, digital interconnect between the
DIGITAL OUTPUT coaxial socket and a digital input of an
amplifier or D/A converter.
Connecting with optical interconnect
• Connect a Toslink optical interconnect between the
DIGITAL OUTPUT optical port and an optical input of an
amplifier or D/A converter.
The cable connection is recommended for the best quality
where this connection is available.
NOTE: The digital output of the CDi-XR is only compatible
with digital inputs. It is not suitable for connection to an
analogue amplifier.
External Power Supply - PSU-XR
The PSU-XR is a unique DC power supply that will upgrade
the sonic performance of compatible products in the Cyrus
range.
• To connect a PSU-XR, disconnect both components from
the mains.
• Plug the multi-pin interconnect from the PSU-XR into
the PSU-XR socket on the back panel.
CAUTION: Use only the interconnect supplied with the PSU-
XR. Other interconnects may damage the PSU-XR and the
amplifier.
• Connect a mains supply to both units.
NOTE: Connection of a PSU-XR is detected automatically, so
no internal adjustments are required.
How it works
The PSU-XR contains five separate power supplies. When
a PSU-XR is connected to a Cyrus product, the power from
the PSU-XR is applied to specific parts of the connected
product.
The twin main power supply of the versatile PSU-XR can
be configured to increase the power reserve available for
power amplification and servo circuitry or provide ultra-
smooth, low noise power for sensitive circuits such as
analogue preamplifiers.
Three additional regulated power supplies can be
simultaneously applied to other sensitive preamplifier or
control circuits as required.
Connection of a PSU-XR will also bring a secondary benefit
by significantly reducing the load placed on internal
power supplies and therefore reducing any power supply
related noise artefacts that may appear within the internal
circuitry.
MC-BUS System Connection (Optional)
By using the MC-BUS connection, a highly functional
integrated system with full remote control may be set up.
This feature is usable if you own a Cyrus amplifier. Refer
to the relevant product handbook for MC-BUS wiring
instructions.
Connecting to the AC Mains Supply
• Connect the socket on the AC Power cable to the AC
Power inlet the back panel.
• Now connect the cable to a suitable AC power point.
There is no mains power switch. To switch off the mains
supply remove the plug from the wall outlet. For this
reason, ensure that the plug is easily accessible when
installing the unit.
To avoid possible damage to your audio system, it
is essential to disconnect all system components
from the mains supply before connecting or
disconnecting audio interconnects.
Important – read before making any connections
