9) Trouble Shooting
NOTE The grey boxes in this table are instructions for installers and service technicians only!
Problem
Check
Action
Motor will not operate
when using a remote
transmitter from long
range.
Check transmitter battery.
Replace transmitter battery.
Motor operates for a
short time then stops
and will only go the
other way for the next
command.
Check shutter curtain is free within
the guides. If tight, call service
technician.
Adjust the guides and check the
physical installation of the shutter
for obstructions to free curtain
movement.
Does it only happen on the way
up? If YES:
• Check the curtain weight is within
specification for axle and motor
combination. If YES, then check
the motor operating current with
a current clamp meter.
If current is
reaching 5-6A the unit will cut out
due to over current at 6A output
to the motor. If this has happened
the only allowed movement is in
the opposite direction.
If current is reaching 5-6A, replace
the faulty motor.
Shutter gets stuck in the
up or down position.
Check that you can hear a relay
clicking in the SolarSmart Plus unit.
If YES:
• Connect the motor directly to an
auxiliary battery and check for
operation.
If the motor fails to operate,
replace motor.
If the motor operates, replace
SolarSmart Plus unit.
Shutter intermittently
stops working.
Check the SolarSmart Plus battery
voltage - should be above 12V.
Is it low? If YES:
• Check the solar panel for bird
droppings and other foreign
matter reducing efficiency.
• Check the location of the solar
panel and for obstacles that could
shade the solar panel as the sun
changes position.
If solar panel is dirty,
clean solar panel.
If solar panel is in shade, relocate
SolarSmart Plus unit.
• Check motor consumption with
current clamp meter.
If motor consumption is above
5A, replace motor.
If after checking all of the above the
shutter still fails to operate correctly,
the battery, solar panel or electronics
have failed.
Replace SolarSmart Plus unit.
Won’t operate on cold
mornings.
Check again after the temperature
has increased and after approx. 1 hr
of bright sunlight. If operation is
restored see the explanation below.
The receiver may stop operating the
motor on extremely cold mornings
or any time of day if temperatures
are 0°C or less. Battery performance
is adversely affected like all batteries
at freezing temperatures and thus
the unit prevents operation to
protect the battery from damage.
If motor doesn’t operate when the
temperature increases, replace
SolarSmart Plus unit.

Have you identified the best location for the SolarSmart Plus - preferably North?
Are the SolarSmart Plus units facing North, West or East?
Are the SolarSmart Plus units angled between 25°- 45° ?
Are the SolarSmart Plus units free of obstacles and shadows, and will they
continue to be all year round?
Will the SolarSmart Plus units receive a minimum of half a day of sunlight in both
Summer and Winter?
8) Removing The SolarSmart Plus Unit
2. Using side cutters, cut the motor cable close to the sealed splice connector.
NOTE Splice connectors are not reusable!
3. Reinstall a replacement SolarSmart Plus unit and pair with a new transmitter.
7) Periodic Maintenance For SolarSmart Plus
6.2 SolarSmart Plus Positioning Checklist
1. Using a flat tip screwdriver, place it between the mounting plate and housing
as shown below. Lever the housing, and the unit will unclip from the mounting
brackets.
Clean all bird droppings, leaf debris, dust and dirt with a soft damp cloth.
Clean the solar panel to maintain charging efficiency, annually or as required.
