Center Compartment Replacement

The center compartment may be removed without
removing the instrument panel.
To prevent personal injury, disconnect nega-
tive (-) battery cables before servicing vehicle.
Remove the three phillips head screws (8) that secure the
center compartment (2) to the instrument panel (1) (Ref.
Fig. 4).
Remove the connections from the main harness to the
gauges and switches in the control panel.
Pull center compartment away from instrument panel.
Assemble in reverse order of removal. Tighten screws (8)
to torque specified below.
Cowl Replacement

Cowl can also be removed along with the front fenders.
To prevent personal injury, disconnect nega-
tive (-) battery cables before servicing vehicle.
Remove brush guard. See “Brush Guard Replacement”
Drill out seven rivets (6) across top of instrument panel (1)
that secure the instrument panel to the cowl (11) (Ref.
Fig. 4).
Drill out six rivets (12) (three on each side) that secure the
cowl to the front fenders).
Raise cowl and unplug headlights.
Remove cowl from vehicle and transfer lights to new
cowl.
Assemble in reverse order of disassembly using new riv-
ets.
Brush Guard Replacement

Remove (two per side) bolts (1), lock washers (2), flat
washers (3), and spacers (4) that secure the brush guard
(12) to the fenders. Retain hardware for reuse.
Remove brush guard.
Assemble in reverse order of removal with longer bolts
and spacers secured in the top mounting holes. Tighten
bolts (1) to torque specified below.
