1.3 Battery Management System (BMS)
The battery management system monitors and controls each unit of the battery to ensure that
the battery is turned off in the case of undervoltage or overload, and automatically restarts
immediately after the problem is corrected to prevent the battery from being damaged.
Important functions of the battery management system:
Overload protection
If an overload occurs, the BMS will turn off the battery output to protect the battery.
The battery has no voltage at this time; when the condition returns to normal, the battery
automatically returns to normal.
Deep discharge protection
Each cell inside the battery individually monitors the deep discharge. If this causes the battery
output to be turned off, the battery can only be turned on again by charging.
Note: Even small consumers, such as alarm systems, relays, backup systems, etc. will consume
capacity and discharge the battery. If you do not use the battery for a long time, please
disconnect all connections between the battery and the system.
Overvoltage protection
The total charging voltage of LIFEPO4 battery is 14.6V (the charging voltage of a single cell cannot
exceed 3.65V/cell), otherwise the battery will be damaged due to overvoltage. Therefore, it is
best to use a suitable charger with a final charging voltage of 14.4V-14.6V to charge the LiFePO4
battery. Although BMS can protect the battery from being overcharged, it must absorb and burn
current by itself. If the charging voltage exceeds 14.6V for a long time, it will damage the BMS!
Active battery balancing
The built-in active balancer can adjust the battery at any time to ensure that the internal small
batteries (cells) have the same voltage and extend the battery life.
Charging control
BMS always monitors and controls all parameters of reliable and safe charging. If something goes
wrong, you can prevent charging by turning off the battery output to protect the battery.
Battery temperature protection
When the battery temperature is too high/low, the BMS will turn off the battery. At this time, you
must first wait for the temperature to return to normal conditions, and then BMS enables the
output again.
