COVE DISHWASHER THEORY OF OPERATION
Wash Cycles
The Cove dishwasher has four wash cycles, Auto, Normal,
Heavy, and Quick, available as keys on the dishwasher's user
interface module (UIM). Additional cycles for
specific
needs (for
example, energy-saving cycles or gentle cycles for china and
crystal) are available by touching the key.
Once the wash cycle is selected, additional options for the
wash cycle (for example, delaying the start time or adding an
anti-bacterial high-temperature rinse) are available by touching
the Options key. To begin the wash cycle, touch the Start key
and close the door.
In each wash cycle:
1
The unit
fills
to a preset volume.
2
The unit heats and circulates water throughout the tub
interior with a preset water temperature and circulation
speed.
3
The unit may change which racks receive spray water/
detergent. Each wash cycle has its own preset spray arm
pattern.
4
The unit does a preset number of
fills
and drains to remove
the soils from the dishes.
5
The unit rinses the dishes with a preset rinse sequence.
6
The unit then dries the dishes with a preset drying
sequence.
Each wash cycle has its own preset water volumes,
temperatures, spray arm patterns, and rinse/drying operations.
Status Light
The status light illuminates to indicate the status of the cycle.
LIGHT
STATUS
Blue
A delayed start has been selected. Touch
Start each time the door is opened prior to
the start time.
Red
The cycle has started.
Green
The cycle is complete.
No Light
The door was not closed within four
seconds after touching Start, the cycle has
been complete for more than two hours, or
the door has been opened.
Water Softener
For water softener models only, a salt compartment is located
at the bottom of the interior.
When softener salt is low, “Add Salt. ENTER once added,
CANCEL to ignore.” appears on the display.
Diverter Valve
The diverter valve helps control water
flow
depending on the
selected wash cycle.
The diverter valve manages water
flow
between the lower,
middle, and upper wash arms. It uses a high-torque motor to
drive a disc valve via a gear box. A proximity sensor sends
information on the disc position to the MCM. The diverter valve
distributes water from the wash pump to the upper/middle and
lower spray arms at different pressures. In select cycles, it
alternates pressure between the arms to deliver a "soak and
scrub" action.
▪
When it diverts water to the upper/middle and lower arms
separately, the unit also adjusts the wash pump RPMs to
help maintain the pressure.
▪
Quick and Rinse & Hold cycles do not divert water. All other
cycles use the diverter valve.
