Installation of Driver/Software
☞
First, install the software provided, before connecting the WLAN adaptor to the computer.
Otherwise, Windows will not
fi
nd the driver on the enclosed CD.
• Insert the enclosed CD in an appropriate drive on your computer. If the installation does not start automati-
cally, open the CD‘s content e. g. with Windows File Manager and start the installation program manually.
Follow all of the instructions. At the time these operating instructions were created, the user needed to start
the installation by running the
fi
le “setup.exe” from the directory “Windows” on the CD.
If there are any queries from the Windows user account control, they must be con
fi
rmed with “Yes”.
• Restarting may be required after
fi
nishing the driver installation.
Connection and Getting Started
• First mount the two WLAN antennae provided to the two screw connections on the device.
• Now connect the mini USB cable to the device and connect the device to your computer. Windows detects
the new hardware and completes the driver installation.
• Windows displays a new icon in the task bar, which you can use to open the con
fi
guration software.
Con
fi
guration
• When you have opened the con
fi
guration software, a list of the available WLAN networks is displayed.
• If you wish to establish a connection in the easiest way, click on the corresponding WLAN and con
fi
rm with
“Connect”.
The correct encryption will be selected automatically.
Enter the WLAN key and con
fi
rm with “OK”.
• The connection is now established automatically.
If a DHCP server runs in your network, an IP address is now assigned automatically to the connection.
• If your WLAN router is online, it should now be possible to connect to the Internet.
Tips & Notes
• WLAN network connections should be encoded to avoid unauthorized access, e.g. to your WLAN router.
You should preferably use the “WPA2” encryption.
• The indicated maximum data transfer rate (e.g. 54MBit for 802.11b/g, which means about 6.5MByte/s) is
never acquired in reality. This is due to different transfer mode systems, transmission errors, the distance
between WLAN stations, etc. The same applies to 802.11n (with this WLAN adaptor, theoretically max.
300 MBit).
• The wireless coverage depends on the ambient conditions, and can be restricted by:
- High-frequency interference of all types (computers, monitors, mobile phones)
- Buildings of all types and vegetation
- Conductive metals that are close to the devices or inside or close to the transmission path, e.g. cables,
radiators, metallised insulated glass panes, reinforced concrete
fl
oors, etc.
-
In
fl
uences on the aerial‘s transmission characteristics, due to the distance of the transmitter or receiver
from conductive areas or objects (including the human body or
fl
oor).
- Broadband interference in urban areas that reduces the signal-to-noise ratio; the signal is not recognised
because of the “noise”
- Irradiation from insuf
fi
ciently shielded electronic devices, e.g. computers operated openly, or similar.
- Movements of the receiver/transmitter
- Too short a distance from the receiver/transmitter
Maintenance and Cleaning
The product does not require any maintenance and should never be disassembled for any reason.
Prior to cleaning the device, remove the USB cable (all network connections will stop functioning).
Only use a dry soft cloth for cleaning.
Do not use aggressive cleaning agents as these can cause discolouration.
Do not press too strongly on the surface when cleaning, to prevent scratch marks.
Disposal
Electrical and electronic products do not belong in household waste!
Please dispose of the product, when it is no longer of use, according to the current statutory
requirements.
