• Should the power cord show any damages, do not touch the power cord. First of all, de-energize the
corresponding mains socket (e.g. via the respective circuit-breaker) and afterwards carefully pull the
mains plug from the socket. Exchange the power cord with a new one with the same technical
specifications. Repair of the damaged power cord is not authorized! There is the risk of a life-
threatening electric shock!
• Do not leave packaging material unattended. It might become a dangerous toy for children!
• In industrial facilities, the safety regulations laid down by the professional trade associations for
electrical equipment and facilities must be adhered to.
• If the product is used at schools, training facilities, do-it-yourself and hobby workshops it should not
be handled unless supervised by trained, responsible personnel.
6. Functional description
The ATX power supply unit transforms the mains voltage (100-240V~, 47-63Hz) into the internal dc voltages needed
by the computer (+5V=, +12V=, -12V= and +3.3V=). A built-in fan dissipates the excessive heat that is formed during
the conversion of voltage.
The ATX power supply unit can be switched on and off via the power switch located on the rear side.
However, the computer does not start when the power switch is switched on. The power supply unit as
well as the connected mainboard or the computer are in the so called ”standby” mode first.
To start the computer, briefly press the power button on the front side of your ATX housing. The button
has to be connected via a cable with the corresponding connection on your mainboard (e.g. “ATX
power” connection or similar; see instructions for mainboard).
If you switch your computer off via the power button (or if the operating system shuts the computer down
automatically and switches it off), there is still a standby voltage on your mainboard.
This is necessary for switching the computer on via the keyboard or the mouse (if the BIOS of your
computer provides this option) or for the automatic switching on/booting of a modem/ISDN call/network
access (depending on BIOS, hardware and software) or via a remote control.
In case of interferences in your computer (e.g. if you want to install a new plug-in card), the ATX power
supply unit must be switched off beforehand via the mains switch which is located on the ATX power
supply unit and it must be separated from the mains voltage; in addition, always disconnect the mains
plug!
Otherwise the mainboard as well as other components may get damaged!
