4.3 Restrictions:
Timing:
Since the transmission of IR data can be very time consuming, it is possible that the control compu-
ter could spend much time while waiting for the acknowledgment of the IR-CTRL. That is why the
answer is first sent to the control computer and then the IR signal. It is important that the IR-CTRL is
ready again only after approx. 25ms to receive new data over the interface.
Data transmission:
When looking at both data formats which are supported by the IR-CTRL, you will notice that a com-
plete byte cannot be transmitted in the Command or Address, which is a major disadvantage for
interchanging data between multiple control computers over the IR-CTRL. For such an application it
is necessary to split the data byte into Address and Command, which is easy to implement with a
limited address range.
Compatibility:
Even though the supported data formats are common for electronic household appliances, many
manufacturers utilize deviations or even their own formats, which naturally results in compatibility pro-
blems with the IR-CTRL. If you should experience any problems when using the IR-CTRL, then it is
recommended to look check the data formats for incompatibility since this is almost always the cause
of the problem. The carrier frequencies also are not always universal such that this could also cause
problems even if the data formats are the same.
