5) Service
a)
Repairs and service should only be performed by qualified persons, and only with
original spare parts.
This guarantees the safety of the electrical hand tool.
Specific Safety Regulations for Belt Sanders
•
Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, because the belt may contact its own cord.
Cutting a ”live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool ”live” and could give
the operator an electric shock.
• Wear safety goggles and a dust mask whenever sanding. Prolonged exposure to the dust
caused by sanding is detrimental to your health; certain types of wood dust are toxic and
hazardous even after minimal exposure.
• Make sure that the sanding belt is intact and well centred.
• Make sure that the sanding belt is not touching anything when switching the machine on.
Switch it on and let it come up to speed before starting to sand.
• Hold the machine firmly in both hands.
• Make sure that there are no nails or foreign bodies in the workpiece before starting to sand.
• Keep the air vents of the motor clean and free of obstructions to prevent the motor from
overheating.
• Wear a dust mask whenever sanding and a dust extractor connected to the machine should
also be used wherever possible.
• Extra care should be taken when sanding paint containing lead or when sanding wood, metal,
or other material which could produce toxic dust. Make sure that anyone in the vicinity of
the work area is also protected from dust and toxins.
• Wood dust can be very flammable when mixed with air.
Warning:
Never use the extractor when sanding metal, sparks could ignite the hose or dust bag.
Vibration
• The measurement of the vibration emission level declared in this instruction manual has been
carried out in accordance with a standardised test method described in EN 60745 and can
be used for comparing one power tool with another.
• The measurement method may also be used for a preliminary assessment of vibration exposure.
• The declared vibration emission level applies when the power tool is used in accordance with
this instruction manual. If however, the power tool is used for other purposes and with other
accessories or has not been properly maintained, the vibration emission level could increase
significantly over the total working period.
• For an exact assessment of the vibration exposure, the times when the tool is switched off or
running idle should also be taken into account. This significantly reduces the vibration exposure
over the total working period. Decide upon safety measures to protect the operator from the
effects of vibration during all types of use.
