BATTERY SWITCH
The dual battery switch provides isolation and
positive disconnect from the batteries to protect
against tampering, electrical fire hazards and
battery rundown. The switch should be in the ON
position rather than the COMBINE BATTERIES
position. This will keep one battery in reserve
should the other fail. You can operate the boat with
the switch in the COMBINE BATTERIES position,
but this is not recommended for extended periods.
In the OFF position, the boat will be isolated from
the batteries except for the automatic bilge pump.
VOLTAGE SENSITIVE RELAY
(VSR)
Your boat may be equipped with a Voltage
Sensitive Relay (VSR). The VSR has the following
features:
• Automatically combines batteries during
charging; isolates batteries when discharging
• Supports high-output alternators up to 120
amps
• Ignition protected – safe for installation aboard
gasoline-powered boats
• Built-in LED light indicates when batteries are
combined
• Waterproof rated IP67 – temporary immersion
for 30 minutes
• Designed for 12-volt systems
• Senses charge source on either battery bank
WATER SYSTEM
If your Cobalt boat is equipped with a transom
shower (optional), the system allows for potable
(drinkable) water to be stored onboard for the
transom shower. Refer to
Section 1
,
Specifications
, for the capacity of the water
system.
The system is operated by a 12V DC water pump
located in the engine compartment. It is necessary
for the 12V DC system to be energized and the
WATER PRESSURE switch to be turned on to
operate the water system. The water pump works
on demand. It will not automatically shut off when
the freshwater tank is empty.
NOTICE: The purpose of dual
batteries is to keep one as a
spare. In the COMBINE
BATTERIES position, one larger
battery is essentially formed. If a
failure should occur with the
electrical systems or either
battery, both batteries will end up
discharged.
NOTICE: On dual battery
installations, there is a VSR
installed that will allow the engine
to charge the second battery. If
the battery is discharged below
9.5V DC, the VSR will not charge
the battery. For the engine to
charge the batteries in this
scenario, the battery switch will
need to be placed in the
COMBINE BATTERIES position
until a sufficient charge is
supplied to the battery to raise its
voltage above 9.5V DC. At that
time, the battery switch should be
returned to the ON position.
