Front Suspension STEERING AND FRONT SUSPENSION
6. Rest the brake caliper on the A-arm. Ensure that there is no strain on the brake hose. See following WARNING.
WARNING
• Strain on the brake hose or the brake hose fittings can result in damage to the line or fittings and
cause a leak in the hydraulic system, diminished brake performance, or brake failure.
7. Remove the pinch bolt and lock nut that secures the strut in the steering knuckle (Figure 7-11, Page 7-8) .
8. Remove the tie-rod ball joint lock nut and separate the joint from the steering knuckle (Figure 7-17, Page 7-10) .
9. Remove the axle nut.
10. Remove the A-arm ball joint lock nut and separate the ball joint from the knuckle (Figure 7-18, Page 7-10) .

11. Push the halfshaft out of the steering knuckle.
12. Pry open the slot in the steering knuckle, to help it slide off the strut, and remove the knuckle from the vehicle
(Figure 7-13, Page 7-8) .
STEERING KNUCKLE INSTALLATION
1. Install a new ball joint if necessary. See Ball Joint Removal on page 7-11.
2. Slide the steering knuckle onto the front strut (Figure 7-13, Page 7-8) . Align the tab on the strut with the slot in
the knuckle and fully seat the strut in the knuckle (Figure 7-14, Page 7-9) . Install the pinch bolt and a new lock
nut and tighten lock nut to 37 ft-lb (50 N·m).
3. Slide the halfshaft into the bearing in the steering knuckle and install the axle nut finger-tight. See following
NOTE.
NOTE: Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the halfshaft splines before it is installed.
4. Install A-arm ball joint stud into the steering knuckle and secure with a new lock nut. Tighten lock nut to 18 ft-lb
(24.5 N·m).
5. Install tie rod ball joint stud into the steering knuckle and secure with a new lock nut. Tighten lock nut to
27 ft-lb (37 N·m).
6. Install the front brake caliper. See Brake Pad and Caliper Installation, Section 6, Page 6-13.
7. Secure the brake hose to the knuckle with a wire tie at the original location.
8. Install the front wheel, finger-tighten the lug nuts and lower the vehicle.
9. Tighten axle nut to 142 ft-lb (193 N·m) and stake the nut.
