Things to consider
• The hottest part of an object can be found by holding in the trigger and
scanning back and forth across the object.
• Steam or smoke between the thermometer and the object can cause
inaccurate temperature readings.
• The thermometer cannot measure the temperature of objects behind glass;
it will measure the temperature of the glass.
• The thermometer should have the same temperature as its surroundings to
prevent the formation of condensation on the sensor which could reduce
the accuracy.
• When measuring the temperature of polished or reflective surfaces (steel,
aluminium etc) they should be masked or painted black beforehand.
Give the tape or paint the time to reach the temperature of the object being
measured. Measure the masked or painted surface.
• The object being measured must be larger than the spot size of the thermo-
meter. Refer to the markings on the side of the thermometer:

The diagram on the side of the thermo-
meter shows that for example if you
hold the thermometer at a distance
of 900 mm from the object, the spot
size (measuring area) is 75 mm (12:1).
Battery insertion
1. Remove the battery compartment cover (6).
2. Insert a battery: 1 × 9 V/6LR61.
3. Refit the cover.
Measuring temperature
Note: Let the thermometer adapt to the ambient temperature before beginning
to take measurements if it has recently been subjected to a great change in
temperature such as having been taken into a warm room from a cold location.
1. Aim the thermometer at the object to be measured.
2. Pull the trigger. The current temperature and the word “SCAN” will be shown
on the display.
3. Release the trigger, the measured temperature and the word “HOLD” will
be shown on the display. The temperature is shown for about 10 seconds
before the thermometer automatically shuts off.
