Replacing Internal Components

Step 10

Because you already had to remove the four long standoff screws to remove the cover, the
arbiter is held in place only by the 96-pin connector that is connected to the backplane.
Grasp the edges of the board and pull the board straight out at a 90-degree orientation to
the backplane to disconnect the board connector from the backplane socket. If necessary,
rock it from side to side very slightly to dislodge the pins from the backplane connector.

Step 11

Place the arbiter in an antistatic bag.

This completes the arbiter removal procedure.

Replacing the Arbiter

Follow these steps to replace the arbiter:

Step 1

When replacing the arbiter, hold the board in the orientation shown in Figure 5-30, with the
connector along the top and facing the backplane. Position the board over the backplane
connector and align the four holes in the corners of the board with the four standoffs.

Step 2

Place your fingers around the top and side edges of the board and push the board straight
in toward the backplane until the 96-pin connector is fully seated in the backplane socket.

Step 3

To replace the backplane cover, hold the side edges of the cover with your fingertips and
slide the cover over the guide pins. (The guide pins are at the top left, top right, and lower
right corners of the cover. See Figure 5-31.)
