Firepower Threat Defense Deployment with a
Remote FMC

Is This Chapter for You?

This chapter tells how to deploy the Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) at a remote branch office using a
Firepower Management Center (FMC) at a central headquarters.

Use one of the following methods to provision your FTD:

Low-Touch Provisioning

(7.1 and later)

• An administrator at the central headquarters sends the FTD to the remote branch office. There is no

pre-configuration required. In fact, you should not configure anything on the device, because low-touch
provisioning does not work with pre-configured devices.

The central administrator can preregister the FTD on FMC using the
FTD serial number before sending the device to the branch office.

Note

• The branch office administrator cables and powers on the FTD.

• The central administrator completes configuration of the FTD using the FMC.

Low-touch provisioning requires Firepower version 7.1 or later.

Note

Manual Provisioning

(6.7 and later)

• An administrator at the central headquarters pre-configures the FTD at the CLI or using FDM, and then

sends the FTD to the remote branch office.

• The branch office administrator cables and powers on the FTD.

• The central administrator completes configuration of the FTD using the FMC.
