4.7 Engine oil
4.7.1 Checking level and adding engine oil
1. Check the engine oil level before starting or more than 5 minutes
after stopping the engine.
2. Remove the oil level gauge, wipe it clean and reinstall it.
3. Take the oil level gauge out again and check the oil level.
4. If the oil level is too low, remove the oil filler plug and add new
oil to the prescribed level.
5. After adding oil, wait more than 5 minutes and check the oil
level again. It takes same the time for the oil to come down to the
oil pan.
Engine oil quantity
High-quality, mineral, hydraulic or synthesized hydrocarbon oil with
rust and oxidation inhibitors, anti-foam and anti-wear properties is
recommended.
The viscosity grade should correspond to the ambient temperature
and ISO 3448, as follows.
To avoid personal injury:
– Be sure to stop the engine before checking and
changing the engine oil and the oil filter cartridge.
– Do not touch the muffler or exhaust pipes while
they are hot. This could cause severe burns. Always
stop the engine and allow it to cool off before
conducting inspections, maintenance, or for a
cleaning procedure.
– Contact with engine oil can damage your skin. Put
on gloves when using engine oil. If you come in
contact with engine oil, wash it off immediately.
– Be sure to inspect the engine, locating it on a
horizontal place. If placed on gradients, oil quantity
may not be measured accurately.
– Be sure to keep the oil level between upper and
lower limits of the oil gauge. Too much oil may
cause a droop in output or excessive blow-by gas.
On the closed breather type engine in which mist is
sucked through port, too much oil may cause oil
hammer. While too little oil, may seize the engine’s
rotating and sliding parts
