It  will  be  necessary  to  index  pilot  in  the  ca m sh a ft  rear 
b earin g   to  install  the  rear  interm ediate  bearing.

6. 

Install  a  new  c am sh aft  r e a r   plug.

N O T E :  Plug  should  be  installed  flush  to  1/32" 
d eep  and  be  parallel  with  re a r  surface  o f   cylinder 

block.

OIL  PAN

Removal

1. 

D r a in   engine  oil.

2. 

Rem ove  oil  dip  stick  and  tube.

3. 

Remove  exhaust  crossover  pipe.

4. 

On  vehicles  equipped  with  autom atic  transm is­

sion  remove  converter  housing  u n d e r  pan.

5. 

Remove  starter  brace  and  in b o a rd   bolt,  swing 

starter  aside.

6. 

R em ove  oil  p a n   and  discard  gaskets  and  seals.

Installation

1. 

T horo u g h ly   clean  all  gasket  and  seal  surfaces  on 

oil  pan,  cylinder  block,  crankcase  front  cover  and  rear 

m ain   b e a rin g   cap.

2. 

Install  new  oil  p a n   side  gaskets  on  cylinder 

block  using  gasket  sealer  as  a  retainer.  Install  new  oil

pan  rear  seal  in  re a r  main  bearing  cap  groove,  with  ends 
butting  side  gaskets.  Install  new  oil  pan  front  seal  in 
groove  in  crankcase  front  cover  with  ends  butting  side 
gaskets  (fig.  6A-51V).

3. 

Install  oil  p a n   and  torque  bolts  to  specifications.

4. 

Install  starter  brace  and  attaching  bolts.  Torque 

bolts  to  specifications.

5. 

Install  converter  housing  und er  pan.

6. 

Install  exhaust  crossover  pipe.

7. 

Install  oil  dip  stick  tube  and  dip  stick.

8. 

Fill with  oil,  start  engine  an d   check  for  leaks.

OIL  P U M P

Removal

1. 

Remove  oil  pan  as  previously  outlined.

2. 

Remove  p u m p   to  re a r  m ain  bearing  cap  bolt 

and  remove  p u m p   and  extension  shaft.

Disassembly  (Figures  6A-52V  and  6A-53V)

1. 

Remove  the  pu m p   cover  attaching  screws  and 

the  pum p  cover.

N O T E : 

M ark  

g e a r  teeth 

so 

they  m a y   be 

reassembled  with  the  same  teeth  indexing.

2. 

Remove  the  idler  gear  and  the  drive  gear  and 

shaft  from  the  p u m p   body.

3. 

Remove  the  pressure  regulator  valve  retaining 

pin,  pressure  regulator  valve  and  related  parts.

4. 

If  the  pickup  screen  and  pipe  assembly  need 

replacing,  m ount  the  p u m p   in  a  soft-jawed  vise  and 
extract  pipe  from  pump.
