Chapter 4

Mainboard Software Guide

In the following installation instructions, drive D:\ is assumed to be your CD-

ROM disk drive.

4-1 VIA ACPI Patch for Win95

Windows 95 software was written before the VIA chipset on your mainboard was
designed and manufactured. Thus, the newer chipset contains information not
recognized by Windows 95. This problem results in an abnormal appearance of
question and/or exclamation marks in the Windows 95 Device Manager window.
You can verify this problem by looking at the Windows 95 Device Manager
window via the following pathway: Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/Device
Manager. The chipset manufacturer has written a Patch file that allows Windows
95 to identify all the components of the chipset. Installing this Patch file will
remove question and/or exclamation marks. However, since the performance of
Windows 95 was not compromised by the lack of this patch, there will be no
increase in Windows 95 performance after installation.

To use the auto-install feature to install the VIA ACPI Patch, do the following:

1. Start Windows 95.
2. Insert the CD-ROM disk that came with your mainboard into your CD-ROM

drive. The CD-ROM will autorun and a software installation window will
appear.

3. Click on the VIA ACPI Patch for Win95 button and follow instructions on the

screen to complete the software installation.

4. Restart the computer.

To install the VIA ACPI Patch manually, click on the Setup application file located
at D:\Viapatch\Setup.exe in Windows Explorer. Be sure to restart your computer
after installation.

4-2 VIA IDE Bus Master Drivers for Win95 and WinNT

IDE Bus Mastering drivers are included for best IDE performance. To use the
auto-install feature to install the IDE driver, do the following:
