2.5.1 Securing the accelerometer
Make sure that the AC031 accelerometer is properly connected.
The accelerometer should be placed at the entry point of the vibration to the worker's hand-
arm system so that it will interfere as little as possible in their work. It is usually placed in the
centre of the grip area where a motor tool is held. The measurements should be taken by
applying the same gripping strength as would be applied in normal working conditions.
Since many hand tools do not have surfaces where the accelerometer can be screwed on or
affixed, the AC031 has installation accessories for curved surfaces.
AA031 Adapter AA131 Adapter
The AA031 adapter for the AC031 accelerometer is used to hold it between the hand and the
tool's grip: lever, handle, etc.
The AA131 adapter is used to affix the accelerometer to the tool with a plastic flange.
It is important that there be a close contact between the accelerometer and the tool.
When the accelerometer is placed, the orientation of the coordinate axes marked on the
accelerometer should be observed. The Y axis corresponds to the line that joins the
knuckles. The X axis corresponds to the line that joins the back of the hand to the palm and
the Z axis corresponds to the line that joins the hand with the inside arm.
The orientation of the axes is defined with regard to the body, not the orientation in space.
