Lower drum frame using the winch (See winch manual for operating instructions,
see section 12.)
When lowering the drum frame without a drum already loaded the handle will
be needed to help it get over its tipping point. Once over the tipping point the
frame will lower itself.
If brake is fitted:
If a disc brake drum spindle is fitted remove the brake and drum shaft
coupling.
If a band brake is fitted remove band from brake drum by turning tommy bar
on screw handle to release tension and sliding brake band off the drum.
Remove the spindle retaining pins, and rotate drum out of the yokes.
Unscrew locking collar and remove both locking and locating collar from the
spindle.
Take spindle out of the drum.
Ensure that the drum shaft and collars are free from dirt and debris, apply a
smear of grease to the revolving collar bores.
Slide locating collars on to spindle and move them up to the toque arm.
Refit the locking collar and lock in position by tightening the two screws.
IMPORTANT
– Ensure the locating collars cannot slide freely down spindle to
prevent damage when in transit.
Put spindle into the trailer chassis and present spindle to yokes adjusting the
frame height as necessary with the winch.
Rotate the brake shaft, fit drum and brake shaft coupling, fit locating pin and
secure locating pin using R clip.
Insert spindle retaining pins into yokes and secure using R clips.
Ensure no personal are to the rear of the trailer, in the area where
drum frame/ drum will be lowered in.
Winch drum frame into position and insert drum frame locking pins,
securing using R clips.
When raising the drum frame without a drum loaded, the handle will be
needed to keep some straining on the rope once the drum frame is over the
tipping point. This is only needed to be done until the suspension units are
applying load to the rope.
Lift rear prop stands and lock in upright position using locking pin, secure using R
clip.
You are now ready to tow your trailer.
IMPORTANT- NO PERSONAL SHOULD BE TO THE REAR OF THE
TRAILER, WHERE THE DRUM/ DRUM FRAME WILL BE LOWERED
TO THE GROUND, WHEN THE WINCH IS IN OPERATION
.
5.4 WINCH OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
See Winch manual, section 12, for operating instructions and general
winch safety information.
5.5 POSITIONING AND BRAKING OF CONDUCTOR DRUM
Once on site, position the trailer at approximately 20-30 metres distance from the first
pole to be strung. Align the trailer so the centre of the drum is in line with the first
pole. This ensures the conductor comes off the drum without fouling the drum
flanges.
