When lowering the drum frame without a drum already loaded the handle will

be needed to help it get over its tipping point. Once over the tipping point the
frame will lower itself.

  If brake is fitted:

If a disc braked drum spindle is fitted remove the brake and drum shaft

coupling.

If a band brake is fitted remove band from brake drum by turning tommy bar

on screw handle to release tension and sliding brake band off the drum.

Remove the spindle retaining pins, and lift spindle from the yokes.

Unscrew locking collar and remove both locking and locating collar from the

spindle.

Ensure that the drum shaft and collars are free from dirt and debris, apply a

smear of grease to the revolving collar bores.

Refit spindle locating collars, ensuring the inner part of the locating collars fit

securely into the drum.

Slide the spindle through the drum to be loaded, ensuring the torque arm drive

pins are located securely into the drum. It should be noted that the conductor or
cable should be fed from the rear of the trailer and off the top of the drum.

Refit the locking collar and lock in position by tightening the two securing screws.

IMPORTANT

– The drum must be located firmly on the collars and there should

be no endplay on the drum.

Roll the drum into the trailer chassis and present spindle to yokes adjusting the

frame height as necessary with the winch.

Rotate the brake shaft, fit drum and brake shaft coupling, fit locating pin and

secure locating pin using R clip.

Insert spindle retaining pins into yokes and secure using R clips.

Ensure no personal are to the rear of the trailer, in the area where

drum frame/ drum will be lowered in.

Winch drum frame into position and insert drum frame locking pins,

securing using R clips.

  Take load off the winch.

Lift rear prop stands and lock in upright position using locking pin, secure using R

clip.

You are now ready to tow your trailer

IMPORTANT- NO PERSONAL SHOULD BE TO THE REAR OF THE
TRAILER, WHERE THE DRUM/ DRUM FRAME WILL BE LOWERED
TO THE GROUND, WHEN THE WINCH IS IN OPERATION

5.3  UNLOADING TRAILER

It is safer to load and unload the trailer when it is attached to the vehicle, and to
adhere to the following:

  Ensure handbrake is applied.

Lower rear prop stands to ground and lock in position.

Ensure that spindle retaining pins are located and secured using R clip.

Ensure winch rope is tight enough on drum frame to take load when drum frame

locking pins are removed.

Ensure no personal are to the rear of the trailer, in the area where

drum frame/ drum will be lowered in.

Remove the drum frame locking pins from the drum frame.
