Final Set Up
The Tutor comes out very tail heavy, it has a
long tail moment and the pipe is in the ‘bullet
proof’ category – it won’t buckle or burn
through! The high tail also requires extra
fuselage structure, so expect to add a sizeable
amount of weight in the nose area. Depending
on battery weight and exact set up you will need
to place between 700g and 800g of weight in
the nose area. This is mandatory, the aeroplane
is still lightly loaded, even with this weight and
will not fly at all tail heavy.
Control Movements
Ailerons 25mm each way Expo 25-35%
Elevators 25mm each way Expo 35-45%
Rudder 40mm each way Expo 40%
Flaps Measured at fuselage fairing. Take Off
20mm. Landing 65-70mm
Balance point is measured at the wing tip in the
last panel line. 60-65mm back from the leading
edge is a safe position with the tank empty and
gear down. If you prefer a softer elevator feel
you can go 10mm in front of this position.
With the balance point as stated, no elevator
compensation is required with flap in
either position.
The CARF Undercarriage set requires between
85 and 95psi to operate reliably. The Brake
system works as required at 80psi.
The Tutor is a pleasure to fly, a large group of
CARF team pilots have flown the prototype
aircraft and all were surprised just how good it
flies, rolls are particularly easy and track well.
Large loops do require lots of power, if you
come into the manoeuvre at scale speeds. The
Tutor maintains momentum well, but requires
quite a long period of power to get past the
fat fuselage and thick wings drag. You will
very quickly learn the various power settings
required. Slow flight is a particular pleasure
with the large flaps producing plenty of drag.
Landings are very straight forward, the Tutor
is very stable on the approach with flaps and
gear down, and only a small flare is required
to grease the main wheels onto your chosen
touchdown position. The super wide main track
is very stable on the ground even in a cross
wind. We thank you for buying the Tutor and
like our Hawk, expect it to be a pilot favourite.
