34. DISPOSAL
Electronic and electrical appliances, as well as batteries, contain materials,
components and substances that can be harmful to yourself and the
environment in the event that the waste materials (discarded electrical and
electronic devices and batteries) are not handled correctly.
Electrical and electronic appliances, as well as batteries, are labelled as
depicted with a crossed out dustbin. This symbol means that electrical and
electronic appliances, as well as batteries, may not be discarded with the
household trash, and must be disposed of separately.
As an end consumer it is your responsibility to dispose of dead batteries at
the collection points provided. This ensures that the batteries will be recycled
in accordance with applicable laws, with no impact on the environment.
Cities and municipalities have set up collection points where electrical and
electronic appliances, as well as batteries are accepted at no charge for
recycling; alternatively, arrangements can be made to have them picked up.
Please contact your municipal authorities for more information.
