Cleaning the BJ Cartridge Print Head
If your printouts become faint or streaked, or if their quality otherwise deteriorates, print
the nozzle check pattern to see if the print head nozzles are operating properly
(

p. 12-10). If the pattern is broken, missing, or a specific colour is not printed, clean
the BJ cartridge print head.
There are two print head cleaning procedures: normal (
HEAD CLEANING
setting) and
deep (
HEAD REFRESHING
setting). Always perform normal print head cleaning first,
and if this does not correct the problem, perform deep print head cleaning.
Refer to the flow chart (

p. 12-9) for the correct order of testing and cleaning the BJ
cartridge print head.

• To maintain the best possible print quality, clean the BJ cartridge print head from time to
time.
• Cleaning the print head consumes a small amount of ink. Cleaning too often reduces the
amount of ink in the BJ tanks.
• If your printing is faint, you can often correct the problem by adjusting the print settings.

• The MultiPASS cleans the print head.

• You can perform normal print head cleaning ( HEAD CLEANING ) up to five consecutive
times if necessary.
• After cleaning, print the nozzle check pattern to check if cleaning corrected the problem.
