Appendix K.  RF400/RF410 Pass/Fail Tests

With some versions of HyperTerminal

TM

 after changing a setting

it is necessary to do a “Call Disconnect” (or “Disconnect”)
followed by a “Call Connect” (or “Call”) for the new setting to
register.

Connect an SC12 to the selected PC COM port either directly or via
known-good RS-232 cable.

(3)

 

Temporarily short together pins 2 and 3 (RX and TX) of the SC12 cable’s
male connector using a small (22 - 24 gage) copper wire, PC card jumper,
or flat-bladed screwdriver.  Take care to connect only pins 2 and 3.

Press any alpha-numeric keys on PC keyboard.

Make sure that Properties/Settings/ASCII Setup “Echo characters
locally” or the equivalent Procomm

TM

 setting is NOT enabled.

If the SC12 cable is good you will see characters “echo” to the screen as
you press the keys.

(6)

 

Remove the short circuit from the SC12 connector.  Key presses should
now cease to echo back.

(7)

 

Test the SC12 cable’s female drop by gently inserting a u-shaped portion
of paper-clip into pins 2 and 3 and repeating steps 4 to 6 inclusive.
