Appendix B. DIN-rail mounting
kits
B.1 Introduction
The 5-inch and 9-inch DIN-rail mounting kits facilitate wiring when many wires need to be
connected to one terminal. The kit contains one 5-inch DIN-rail (or one 9-inch DIN-rail)
mounting bracket, screws, grommets, and DIN-rail caps. A complete configuration will also
include terminal strips, end plates, and jumpers. The caps, terminal strips, and end plates are
mounted onto the DIN-rail bracket. The DIN-rail bracket is mounted to an enclosure backplate
using the kit screws and grommets.
One 5-inch DIN-rail mounting kit terminal strip consists of three spring-loaded “guillotine”
terminals that provide connection points for individual wires. Up to 20 of these terminal strips
may be fastened to the 5 in DIN-rail mounting kit. The 9-inch DIN-rail bracket holds up to 36.
The end plates separate the terminal strips. Jumpers are used to electrically connect the terminals.
A cap needs to be on each end of the terminal strip assembly.
B.2 Installation procedure
1. Slide a DIN-rail cap onto each end of the DIN rail ( FIGURE B-1 (p. 31)).

2. Locate the position to mount the DIN rail inside the enclosure ( FIGURE B-2 (p. 32)). There
must be sufficient room on all sides to provide clearance for any component mounted on
the DIN rail. Note the location of the backplate mounting holes at either end of the DIN
rail.
