The CR6 wiring panel is a convenient power distribution device for powering
sensors and peripherals that require a 3.3 or 5 Vdc, or 12 Vdc source. It has one
continuous 12 Vdc terminal (
12V
) and two program-switched 12 Vdc terminals
(
SW12
). When a 3.3 or 5 Vdc supply is needed, a
U
terminal can be configured
to output a continuous, regulated 3.3 or 5 V.
SW12
,
12V
, and
U
terminals
configured for continuous 3.3 or 5 Vdc out, limit current internally for protection
against accidental short circuits. Voltage on the
12V
and
SW12
terminals vary
with the dc supply used to power the CR6, so be careful to match the CR6 power
supply to the requirements of the sensors.
U
terminals configured for 3.3 or 5
Vdc out are internally regulated to within ±4% of the nominal value, which is
good regulation as a power source, but typically not adequate for bridge sensor
excitation.
Omnibus Current Source and Sink Limits — Specifications
(p. 124)
lists
the current limits of
12V
and
U
terminals configured for continuous voltage
output. Greatly reduced output voltages on these terminals may occur if the
current limits are exceeded. See
Terminals Configured for Control
(p. 476)
for
more information.
8.2.1 Switched-Voltage Excitation
Up to 12 analog output (excitation) terminals can be configured from
U
terminals
to operate under program control to provide ±2500 mV dc excitation. Check the
accuracy specification of terminals configured for exctitation in
Specifications
(p.
to understand their limitations. Specifications are applicable only for loads
not exceeding ±25 mA.
