Brake Inspection
Your trailer brakes should be inspected and serviced at 2-year intervals
or more often as use and performance requires. Magnets and shoes must
be changed when they become worn or scored thereby preventing
adequate vehicle braking.
Clean the backing plate, magnet arm, magnet, and brake shoes. Make
certain that all the parts removed are replaced in the same brake and
drum assembly. Inspect the magnet arm for any loose or worn parts.
Check shoe return springs, hold down springs, and adjuster springs for
stretch or deformation and replace if required.
It is recommended that you repack the wheel bearings any time the
brakes are inspected.
If the brakes require replacing, use
2000 lb Dexter 7” trailer brake
assemblies
. Left and Right assemblies are NOT interchangeable.
Use waterproof connectors for making the electrical connections.
Autowbrake Controller Calibration
Calibration is
required the first time you use your Autowbrake.
1.
Connect trailer to tow vehicle and plug in trailer connector.
2.
Calibrate on a level driveway or parking lot, this allows Autowbrake to
determine the common towing position.
3.
If you will be heavily loading the trailer or the tow vehicle, load them
prior to calibrating to ensure correct ride height.
4.
Put vehicle in Park or chock wheels on standard transmission vehicles
5.
Turn vehicle ignition to ON position. Vehicle doesn’t need to be
running.
6.
Have one person get in the vehicle and press the brake pedal. Have
them continue to hold brake pedal down.
7.
While the brake pedal is depressed, have second person go back to
Autowbrake module and depress both buttons at the same time for 2
to 4 seconds then release.
8.
Once the LED stops flashing you can release the brake. Your
Autowbrake is calibrated.
