When using a USB-Serial adaptor, it is possible to check in the
‘Device Manager’ screen on the host PC to find the correct COM
port assignment. To do this, select ‘Start’ then ‘Control Panel’
then ‘System’. Select the ‘Hardware’ tab and then click on
‘Device Manager’. This brings up a complete list of all devices
associated with the PC. Clicking on the plus sign beside ‘Ports
(COM and LPT)’ will bring up a list of communications devices
attached to the PC. The USB-Serial Adaptor will be displayed as
‘Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port’ or ‘USB COM Port’ (see
below):
In this example the COM port assigned to the USB-Serial
adaptor is COM7. The Comm port setting in the Sleep Software
must be set to match this assignment.
