CAUTION

Provide ample ventilation. This gas appliance consumes air (oxygen). Do not use this appliance in an unventilated space to 

avoid endangering your life. If still more gas appliances and/or occupants using gas are added to the space, additional ventilation 

must be provided.

IMPORTANT

Read these instructions carefully so as to familiarise yourself with the appliance before fi ting the appliance to a gas cylinder.

Retain these instructions for future reference.

1. General

•  This appliance complies with SANS 1539:2012

•  This appliance shall be used exclusively on CADAC domestic gas cylinders. 

•  It may be hazardous to attempt to fi t the appliance to other types of gas cylinders.

•  This appliance uses a unique No. 23 CADAC jet. (See Section 9).
•  Gas appliances require ventilation for effi cient performance and to ensure the safety of users and other persons in close proximity.

Use Outdoors Only.

2. Safety information

•  Check that the seal between the stem and the gas cylinder is in place and in good condition 

before connecting to the gas cylinder.

•  Do not use the appliance if it has a damaged or worn seal.

•  Do not use an appliance that is leaking, damaged or which does not operate properly.

•  Use this appliance only on a fi rm level surface.

•  Ensure the appliance is used away from fl ammable materials. Minimum safe distances are: 

Above the appliance 1.2m. At the rear and sides 0,6m.

•  Ensure that the appliance is fi tted to the gas cylinder in a well-ventilated location, preferably 

outdoors, away from any sources of ignition, such as naked fl ames, pilots, electric fi res and 

away from other people.

•  If there is a leak on your appliance (smell of gas), take it outside immediately into a well-

ventilated fl ame free location where the leak may be detected and stopped. If you wish to 

check for leaks on your appliance, do it outside. Do not try to detect leaks using a fl ame, use 

soapy water.

•  In the event of light back (where the fl ame burns back and ignites at the jet immediately turn 

off the gas supply by closing the cylinder valve using the control knob. After the fl ame is 

extinguished, re-light the appliance as described in Section 5 below. Should the fl ame light 

back again, return the appliance to your authorised CADAC repair agent.

3. Assembly Instructions

•  The CADAC Handi Braai is easy to assemble and prepare for use.

•  To fi t the stem to the gas cylinder, fi rst check that the cylinder valve is in the “off” position by turning the control knob clockwise to its 

“stop” position. Screw the stem into the cylinder in a clockwise direction until it is fully engaged. Tighten by hand only.

•  Place the burner base plate on the stem, making sure that the burner tube fully engages on the stem.

•  Place the fat pan onto the burner base plate and stem. 

•  Place the fl ame tamer and BBQ grid in the fat pan, making sure that it sits properly.

•  When using the pot stand, pot sizes should not exceed 350mm in diameter.

4. Fitting and Changing the Gas Cylinder

•  Before connecting the appliance to a gas cylinder, ensure that the rubber seal is in position and in good condition.
•  Carry out this check each time you fi t the appliance to a gas cylinder.
•  Blow out any dust from the cylinder opening to prevent possible blockage of the jet.
•  Ensure that the gas cylinder is fi tted or changed in a well-ventilated location, preferably outdoors, away from any source of ignition, 

such as naked fl ames and away from other people.

•  Make sure that the gas cylinder is kept upright at all times, connect to the cylinder by screwing on hand tight until fully engaged.
•  Ensure that a complete gas seal has been made (check for the smell of gas around the connection joint). If there is a leak on your 

appliance (smell of gas), take it outside immediately into a well-ventilated fl ame free location where the leak may be detected 
and stopped. To check for leaks on your appliance, do it outside using warm soapy water only, which is applied to the joints and 
connections of the appliance. A formation of bubbles will indicate the gas leak. Do not check for leaks with a naked fl ame.

•  If you cannot rectify the gas leak do not use the appliance, contact your local CADAC stockist for assistance.
•  CADAC gas cylinder valves must only be repaired by an authorised CADAC service centre or dealer.
•  When changing a gas cylinder fi rstly close the cylinder valve, making sure the fl ame is extinguished, unscrew the stem. Re-fi t the stem 

to a full cylinder following the same precautions as described above.
