
SAT Units (SkyWave-Inmarsat):
Locate and confirm the satellite look angle prior to
installing the SkyWave satellite terminal. Mount the NEMA-rated enclosure. Install the
battery, battery charger, satellite terminal, and then connect the input device in the input
channels on the unit.

ORB Units (ORBCOMM):
Mount the NEMA-rated enclosure. Install the battery, battery
charger, antenna surge protector, antenna, and then connect the input device in the input
channels on the unit.
Preparing for the Installation
Use the following items as a checklist prior to installing a unit Bullhorn unit.
1. All Unit Types:
For all GSM digital cellular and satellite units:
a.
Does the installation area provide enough room to easily open the enclosure? When
you finish the installation, you’ll need to open the enclosure to configure the unit for
service using the UCT software.
b.
Is the latest version of the Universal Configuration Toolkit software installed on the
computer you plan to use during the installation? For more information, see
Universal
Configuration Toolkit Software on page 13.
2. GSM Units (KORE Wireless):
For the SDT16-GSM:
a.
Does the KORE Wireless network provide coverage in the area of the installation site?

GSM Digital Cellular Service on page 19.
b.
Is the RSSI (receive signal strength indicator) greater than –88dB? For more
information, see
Communication Settings on page 57.
c.
Begin the installation with Mounting Requirements on page 28.
3. SAT Units (SkyWave-Inmarsat):
For the SDT16-SAT:
a.
For installations outside the United States, use the SkyWave-Inmarsat coverage map on
the Bullhorn website to determine the correct satellite look angle (azimuth and
elevation) for the location you plan to install the satellite terminal. Instructions are
provided in the next section,
Determining the Satellite Look Angle (SAT Only) .
If the installation is in the United States, the SkyWave satellite terminal must be
installed so that it faces in a southeast direction. The satellite terminal is programmed at
the factory for communications with the Inmarsat satellite that is positioned southeast
of the U.S. (Figure 1-10 on page 20).
b.
Test the SkyWave satellite terminal to verify communications with the Inmarsat satellite
before you actually install the satellite terminal in the field. Perform the test in the same
location you plan to install the satellite terminal. Instructions are provided later in
Confirming the Satellite Look Angle (SAT Only) on page 26.
c.
Based on where you plan to install the Bullhorn equipment, begin with the next section
if the installation is outside the United States or with
Confirming the Satellite Look Angle
(SAT Only) on page 26 if the installation is in the United States.
